Contrary to what some of the more zany websites might claim, we are really just ordinary guys, living and working in our communities, who enjoy socialising with like-minded men and their families, with the aim of making the world a better place than it would otherwise be without us. That’s Freemasonry in a nutshell.
Our founders in 1958 were all local men – from Brierfield and nearby towns – who came from a variety of business backgrounds. The current membership is no less diverse, with a wide range of professions and trades represented.
Today’s members (some working, some retired) include shopkeepers – butchers, bakers and candlestick makers (okay, maybe not the last one) – engineers and craftsmen from various disciplines, police officers and civil servants and an orthopaedic surgeon.
The age profile of our members is equally wide-ranging; the youngest in their twenties and the most senior in their eighties.
